I have made a new T-shirt print for MAMBO Australia's Goddess line. It is a very street-, surf-, artsy-, tongue-in-cheek kind of brand, that keeps a positive and humoristic approach to fashion, that I like a lot.
When I was given this assignment I was immediately thrown back to the days spent as a young girl writing down poetic verses in my classmates poetry journals. Books that every girl in their right mind was keeping and personalizing with doodles and bobs. Not only was I doing the artwork for this print but also bound to come up with a tagline for the thing... This paralysed me for a while, but after intense brainstorming, this is what I came up with; "Summers Butterflies Took Shelter in my Winter Heart" - to make reference to summer as this was meant for the winter collection. This was edited slightly back and forth through the process of making the artwork. But I quite like how it turned out in the end. Actually this preview is not the final piece as the eventual artwork included photographic flower images instead of these painted ones. This piece was quite challenging for me in many ways as it held many new elements and turned out quite different from what I call my signature style. But sometimes (always) it is good to be trown into deep water, this is where we reinvent and discover new things.
